China pays for Windows XP obsession as ‘WannaCry’ hits

The WannaCry ransomware has wormed a approach into tens of thousands of Windows PCs in China, where Windows XP runs one in 5 systems, internal reports pronounced Monday.

More than 23,000 IP addresses in a People’s Republic of China (PRC) uncover signs of infection, a country’s National Computer Network Emergency Response Technical Team/Coordination Center (CNCERT) told Xinhua, a state-run news agency, on Monday.

“Intranets in many industries and enterprises involving banking, education, electricity, energy, medical and travel have been influenced in opposite extents,” CNCERT said.

The Hong Kong-based Southern China Morning Post upped a ante in a news Monday, claiming that tens of thousands of businesses and organizations had been strike by a ransomware, that has been dubbed “WannaCry” by many confidence experts, “WannaCrypt” by a few outliers.
